penmanship

I love Stefan’s handwriting. I think it’s so nice for a first grader.

The other day he said, ” I want to be an animal scientist, but I also want to be a rockstar. Can you be more than one thing? Because I know this is a little weird, but I also want to be a cheerleader.”

“President Bush was cheerleader,” was my response, although MANY other questions have come to mind since then, but he doesn’t want to elaborate. Is it a way to meet girls? Or the spangly costume?

Stefan’s handwriting IS beautiful. So is Camille’s. Love the camel photo. How do you find the time to do all this artsy stuff????

And his printing is excellent! One of the things that came in the most handy in my adult life was knowing how to print neatly. More useful than algebra!

He does have nice writing. Katya has never learned to print properly and it really upsets me. Her Russian teachers (ESL) in Kindergarten had no training on how to properly write the English letter, so she often does letters upside down or backwards–even though they LOOK correct.
At her new school, they teach “joined letters.” I had never heard of them before… It’s neither printing nor cursive and too fancy for my taste… A first grader should know how to PRINT nicely!
Mind you, I earn a living teaching other children to write… but my own, of course, is too stubborn to listen to me…
I’ve struck back by switching from “time outs” to copying sentences for punishment. “I will obey my parents” and “I will tell the truth” did look a whole lot better by the thirtieth time!
