Looks like SteFUN is very serious on making sure everything is the way it should be. But from what I hear in Moscow you can buy most everything that you want.

Hi Dina,
I enjoyed reading your few last posts and catching up with your life. I understand you’re nowhere near Moscow yet? When are your going? Are the kids going to school in DC?
Cheers from Provence,

In old days (70s) you would have Levis, Nikon 35mm SLR (maybe two), and many tubes lipstick in pile.

Maybe they have a Trader Иосиф’s in Moscow.

No… NO Trader Joe’s.. While you still can find most things, you probably wouldn’t be willing to fork over the amount they might cost… You can get most spices here nowadays, but if you want any specific oils for Asian cooking or any particular baking ingredients (molasses, brown sugar, corn syrup, almond/orange extracts, cupcake liners, allspice), you’ll need to pack them. You can’t count on finding them here.
Lucky you that you’ll be able to mail order anything you’re really dying to have!!! I remember going to a meeting at a woman who lived at the embassy’s home… Some of us were BESIDE ourselves at the sight of Hershey’s Kisses on her coffee table! (Incidently, you can now get those here–but they’re almost 75 cents per kiss!).LikeLike
