Sound it out, the big word on the cover of the Bolshoy Ballet's program, move your lips to each Russian letter: Giselle. Also, it's not black nail polish, it's very dark red. The older I get, the more my hands look like my dad's. Oh well.

At the theater, before the performance, have a glass of Russian champagne.

Small theater at the Big Theater.

The ghosts of the second act of Giselle. I'd never cried at a ballet before…it was otherworldly. Must go buy more ballet tickets.

    Hi Guys,
Wow, I’m a bit envious. If you are trying to lure us over, you’re doing a GREAT job.
    Where’s Peter’s nails?
btw, I’m quite addicted to Place2Place now, and feel like my day is somehow diminished when I don’t see a new post. I’m vicariously living in Moscow, and when there is no new post, I feel like I’ve lost a day.
    Keep up the great news!
    luv, clay

Tami and Chris took me to the Bolshoi on the night of Christmas Day and Katya also got to come. Natalia was VERY upset when she saw all of us getting dressed and she was in her pajamas. The performance was fantastic and the theatre was just gorgeous. When I come next Christmas, I want to go back for a ballet.

I first saw the Bolshoi’s Giselle among the ruins of Baalbeck in Lebanon. I was enchanted, but not as much as I would have been at the Bolshoi in Moscow. You seem to be fulfilling all your dreams; I look forward to mushroom hunting in the near future! Tseluyu.

Girl! Pace yourself! After the staid lifestyle of Niamey, you’re going to burn yourself out with all these exotic adventures!
OBTW, grow your nails longer and they won’t look like your dad’s hands (or at least I hope not LOL)
I miss the winters in Niamey

When I was dating Tanya my future wife she had an asignment to translate for Russian Ballet. She asked me if I wanted to go watch them perform at the civic center in Sacramento. In my youth I had no respect for ballet but was willing to pretty much go anywhere with Tanya. I was totally blown away by it! It was amazing, not just in it’s beauty and choreography but I was mostly impressed with the athleticism.
